Dr Bryan JW Tan, MD
Founder & Principal
Dr Bryan Tan is the founder and principal of BTJW Corporate, an independent corporate, strategic and capital advisory practice that counsels companies, founders and the investors behind them on their most consequential decisions.
He brings an unconventional blend of clinical, operating and capital-markets experience — and a novel, clinically-grounded perspective that few in finance can match. Across healthcare capital markets and corporate finance — leading healthcare equity research at Macquarie Capital, healthcare advisory in corporate finance at Wilsons Advisory, and healthcare capital markets at MST Financial — he has advised listed and unlisted companies on capital raisings, IPOs, strategic stakes, mergers and acquisitions, and partnerships across the Asia-Pacific, United States and European markets. He also served as the inaugural Medical Director (Australia & New Zealand) of VML Health, part of the WPP network, advising global pharmaceutical clients on strategy and market entry.
As Global Head of Medical Affairs and Clinical Development at ASX-listed Medical Developments International, he led an international team and engaged the FDA, EMA, MHRA and TGA. Earlier he held medical-affairs leadership roles at AstraZeneca, GenesisCare and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen), and founded and exited two health ventures.
He remains a practising Senior Medical Officer within the emergency department and holds tenure as a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University — a clinical grounding that shapes how he reads risk and value.
Dr Tan holds an MBBS (Honours) and a BSc (physiology and pharmacology) from Monash University, completed the Program for Leadership Development (PLD) at Harvard Business School, holds a Diploma of Finance and is RG146 accredited. He has published multiple peer-reviewed clinical research articles. A Singaporean citizen based in Melbourne, he works across Asia-Pacific, the United States and Europe.
"Both a leading emergency medicine physician and one of Australia's best health sector financial analysts — he seamlessly integrates clinical expertise with financial acumen." Prof the Hon Greg Hunt — Former Australian Minister for Health & Aged Care
